Spotlight on Entelligence Rock Stars: Q and A with Justin Parmalee
October 1st, 2012 by dennis
We at Entelligence have been blessed with a great team of people who love what they do and elate our clients and customers, both internally and externally. In an industry where more than half of the people are looking for greener pastures at any given time, we are surrounded by team members who want to be here and show it every day by doing amazing work.
We decided that we would shine the spotlight on some of our team and learn a bit about them and why they love being a part of our mission to delight our clients.
Today, we’re talking with Justin Parmalee, long term consultant, with Hitachi Data Systems.
Justin, you have obviously been successful in this role. What are the contributing factors, in your opinion, to great customer scores?
That’s easy. It’s my personality and how I work and interact with the clients. Though I am technically proficient in what I do, my most important asset and what I bring to the table is talking with clients and helping them understand the WHAT and WHY-What we are doing, why we are doing it, and how it’s going to benefit them. It’s also my job to give the client a sense that that this all will be done on time and to their specification.
In a nutshell: I make sure they’re happy.
How has Entelligence contributed to your success?
Here’s what they do well: they totally understand what I as a consultant need in my day to day role. I don’t need one more manager managing or micromanaging what I do. What I DO need is support from a team of people and assistance when I put something out there.
Entelligence has been able to give that to me. They’ve been very insightful about it all.

Spotlight on Entelligence Rock Stars: Q and A with Reza Sarkhani
September 20th, 2012 by dennis
We at Entelligence have been blessed with a great team of people who love what they do and who elate our clients and customers, both internally and externally. In an industry where more than half of the people are looking for greener pastures at any given time, we are surrounded by team members who want to be here and they show it every day by doing amazing work.
We decided that we would shine the spotlight on some of our team and learn a bit about them and why they love being a part of our mission to delight our clients.
Today, we’re talking with Reza Sarkhani, Project Manager, Global Solution Services.
So, Reza tell us a little about your background.
I have had the privilege of working on 3 different continents- Europe, Asia, and North America. I currently work with Hitachi Data Systems and their hardware and software.
Tell us about what your high customer satisfaction scores. How do you do it?
Well, I try to do my best and I get a lot of support from the people at Entelligence, my team and managers.
You’ve performed really well in this role. What would you say has contributed to your success?
To start with I feel like I am working for people I can count on. I also think that my varied background helps me be more aware in many ways of what is going on and seeing problems and fixing them before they become too big to handle.
How has Entelligence contributed to your success?
They let me do my work unencumbered. They just let you get on with what you need to do. They only offer advice if you REALLY need it. They don’t micromanage. And, maybe this is a generalization, but I’m pretty sure that NOBODY likes to be micromanaged. Why hire really competent people if you’re going to look over their shoulder all the time, right? Entelligence managers don’t do that, thankfully.
What do you like about Entelligence? Why do you stay?
I must say that I like the people at Entelligence, the work is varied, interesting and above all challenging. I treat every day as a personal lesson learned and feedback for the next day. That way I will tweak my performance to optimum level of the specific situation. Entelligence is one of those rare companies that offer the challenging work that I seek.

Federal Funds to Train the Jobless are Drying Up-Now What?
April 10th, 2012 by dennis
A story in yesterday’s New York Times says that federal funds to train people are drying up. Frankly, if we’re only depending on the federal government to solve the problem we’re all in big trouble. Training workers to bridge the skills gap is going to take a joint effort between government investment and business and, to some degree, higher education.
Hopefully that kind of co-operative effort can happen soon. But the programs in place today don’t solve the problem because they often go to the wrong places for the wrong people for the wrong reasons.
On the other hand, companies like Entelligence IT offer training and development today. For example, we offer free NetApp training, free HDS (Hitachi) training, free Citrix training and free CommVault training to those who qualify. Even so, it’s not enough. This training can often cost small companies like ours $50,000 per employee in the first 3 months. And, there’s no guarantee that the employee will be ready to work right away.
The old model is outdated and broken. Hardware and software companies need people to support their products. And companies like ours are dependent on our partners to provide that training. However, the cost model is prohibitive to make any meaningful dent in hiring and training people who are experts in their technology.
I’m working hard to convince these companies to change their thinking – to give away their training for free or, at least make it affordable now. I believe that hardware and software companies who open up their training to the masses will create a wellspring of passionate evangelists for their products. And this in turn will generate even more sales of both products and services.
In the meantime, we continue to offer NetApp jobs, Citrix jobs, Hitachi Data System jobs, CommVault jobs, and others every week. High paying prestigious jobs that we hope to fill soon with qualified and capable team members.
Lots of Jobs, Not Enough People to Do Them
March 21st, 2012 by dennis
Every day the drumbeat gets a little louder. There are 3 million available jobs in the high tech sector alone and there are simply not enough qualified applicants to do them all. How is that possible, given all of the unemployment numbers? “We run ads every week,” says Entelligence CEO Steve Satterwhite, “for NetApp jobs, Hitachi Data System jobs, Citrix jobs….you name it. And we struggle to find qualified people to fill these vital roles in our company.”
Robert Moritz, Chairman and Senior Partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers has written a terrific article in today’s Harvard Business Review about the subject. He says that most often the blame for our stagnant economy is laid at the feet of the usual suspects-erratic capital markets, systemic risk, tax policy, and regulatory uncertainty. But, he says that the real culprit, and the one that is not being fixed at a fast enough rate is the skills gap, especially here in the West.

Explosive Growth in Cloud Computing Means More Unfilled Job Openings
March 16th, 2012 by dennis
Wanted Analytics, a business intelligence firm that studies the high tech business, says that there’s a severe shortage of qualified workers in the cloud computing industry. In February, there were over 5,000 job postings online related to cloud technology, a 92% increase from the same month last year and more than four times more than the same month in 2010. Their findings are not surprising, really. This trend reflects the growing deficit of qualified workers across all of the high tech business, from data storage to engineers. We here at Entelligence, like other high tech firms around the globe, are always looking for qualified people.
Entellligence CEO Steve Satterwhite recently wrote about the shortage of high tech workers in the cloud computing business, and he points out that big data is doubling every two years, but the qualified individuals necessary to handle that growth is only growing by a factor of 1.5.

Arkansas Public Servants Use Citrix Software to Be More Efficient
February 17th, 2012 by dennis
Joe Friday probably wouldn’t believe it, but police in Rogers, Arkansas are giving all of their patrol cars mobile access to a key public safety application, running on XenDesktop and Wyse laptops. Fire trucks and ambulances are also using the application to be more efficient. GPS antennae mounted on police patrol cars feed their coordinates back to XenDesktop, which are then sent to their 911 call center and police dispatch.
This has created so much more efficiency on many levels, and may be a model for larger cities’ police, fire, and EMS systems. Alan Lantz, System Administrator at the City of Rogers explains: “Before the mobile public safety implementation, an officer would write a ticket or two then have to make a trip back to the police department to file the reports while the incidents were still fresh. By giving them wireless access to the public safety application via XenDeskop from their patrol cars, we’ve eliminated the wasted time of officers driving back to the police department to file reports. Officers can stay out in the field all day long and do the reporting from their cars. This equates to more hours on the road; which translates to faster response times to accidents/calls citywide.”
